Small Business Saturday

By: Will Anderson

Small businesses help the economy in more ways than you might think. In addition to helping bring new growth and innovation to the local communities they serve, they provide a vast array of employment opportunities for people living in and around the community. Unlike larger businesses that are based elsewhere, maybe even overseas, small businesses foster local economies, keeping money close to home and supporting neighborhoods and communities. There are more than 27 million small businesses in the US, and they generate about 50 percent of our gross national product.

Small businesses can’t succeed without local support. People need to support small businesses because they directly stimulate the local economy and create more jobs within the community. They also provide better employee wages and benefits than many chain stores do.

One way to support the small businesses in your area is to participate in Small Business Saturday. This year, the event will be held nationwide on November 28th, 2020, just in time to get your holiday shopping started. Your friends and family members are unique, so it only makes sense to get them a unique gift as well. Use that day to check out some of the local businesses in your area that you may not have visited previously. Visit your local gift shops, barbers, restaurants and clothing stores.

You will most likely be pleasantly surprised by what they have to offer. Typically, the selection is much more unique than what you would find in a big box store, and the customer service is more personal and friendly. On top of that, you’ll feel good knowing that the money you spend is going directly back to your community, rather than a big corporation thousands of miles from home. You’ll be helping the owners and their employees, many of whom are probably your neighbors.

Be sure to shop small on Saturday, November 28th! TrustPoint Insurance & Real Estate is proud to support small businesses!
